Iconic Open University invites applications from suitably qualified academics from accredited universities to serve as External Examiners and Project/Dissertation/Thesis Co-Supervisors for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

This call is open to scholars with demonstrated expertise across all academic disciplines offered by the University notably;

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
i. Academic Rank: The candidate must not be below the rank of Senior Lecturer. A Reader or Professor are often the preferred choice, especially for postgraduate research supervision.
ii. Qualification: Must possess a minimum of a Ph.D. in their field of expertise from an accredited institution.
iii. Experience: Must have relevant expertise in their specialization. Evidence of prior experience as an external examiner at recognized tertiary institutions is preferred. Demonstrated track record of postgraduate supervision and research publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals .
iv. Independence: The examiner must be independent of Iconic Open University. Candidates must not have any conflict of interest, including but not limited to:
a. Current or recent employment with Iconic Open University (within the last three years)
b. Close professional, contractual, or personal relationships with staff or students involved in the programme
c. Significant involvement in recent collaborative research with staff closely involved in the programme
d. Reciprocal arrangements involving cognate programmes at another institution
e. Former students of the University (unless a period of five years has elapsed and all students taught by or with the examiner have completed their programmes)

Additional Preferred Qualifications
i. Strong publication record in reputable journals within the last three years.
ii. Experience in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments.
iii. Familiarity with e-assessment and virtual examination platforms.
iv. Evidence of leadership in research and postgraduate

Tenure
External Examiners and Project Co-Supervisors will be engaged on a contractual basis over a period of time with specified duties and roles that may change from time to time.

Application Processes

Step 1: Expression of Interest
Interested candidates must submit an independent application to Iconic Open University, expressing their interest in serving as an external examiner or project supervisor.

Step 2: Review of applications and invitation for a due-deligence interaction virtually.

Step 3: Transmission of the evaluation outcome for Senate consideration and approval.

Step 4: Official Appointment
Upon Senate approval, successful candidates will receive an official letter of appointment with conditions of contract and terms of reference.

Call to Action
i. Once approved, an external examiner will typically serve for a term of one academic session which may be renewed based on performance.
iii. For research degree examiners, appointments may be made on a semester basis.

Termination of Appointment
Iconic Open University reserves the right to terminate an appointment in cases of:
i. Non-fulfilment of duties, including failure to submit reports or attend Examination Boards
ii. Unprofessional conduct
iii. Conflict of interest arising during the appointment
iv. Changes in programme provision rendering the appointment no longer applicable
v. External Examiners may also resign by providing a notice in advance of completion of a semester assignment.’

Application Requirements
Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
i. Letter of Interest expressing intent to serve as an External Examiner or Project Co-Supervisor addressed to the Registrar specifying one of the Iconic University’s department. Also, It must be on the candidate’s letter headed paper of his/her department.
ii. Detailed and Updated Curriculum Vitae highlighting academic qualifications, work experience, publications, and previous external examining experience.
iii. Copies of all Academic Certificates/Credentials.
iv. Evidence of Prior External Examining Experience (where applicable).
v. Contact Details for at least Two Academic Referees who can attest to the candidate’s competence and integrity.
vi. Last Appointment/Promotion letter in an academic position.

Remuneration
Remuneration will be provided in accordance with the approved Iconic Open University policies and rates for external examiners and project co-supervisors.
